About Us
The Western Reserve Geriatric Education Center is a consortium of nationally recognized academic leaders in gerontology and geriatric medicine.
Administered through Case Western Reserve University, the Western Reserve Geriatric Education Center consortium sites include: Cleveland State University, Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.
The WRGEC's mission is to improve health care for older adults by providing education, training, and consultation to faculty, health care professionals and consumers throughout the state of Ohio.
Funded through the Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), the WRGEC is committed to improving the knowledge and clinical skills of healthcare professionals who interact with older adults on every level. The WRGEC collaborates with a host of agencies throughout Ohio and nationally to put together programming geared to a wide audience of disciplines, with the quality content that health care professionals have come to need and expect from continuing education programs.
The WRGEC regions cover 41 of the 88 counties in Ohio including 19 counties in northern Ohio, and 22 rural Appalachian counties in southeastern Ohio. WRGEC programs address the challenges of health care delivery to older adults including barriers to access in Appalachia, issues of poverty in inner city Cleveland, and issues of diversity and cultural competence.
