WRGEC Purpose
Established in 1985 with a grant from the Bureau of Health Professions, Health Resources and Services Administration, the Western Reserve Geriatric Education Center is part of a nationwide network offering education and training opportunities. As a leader in delivering state-of-the art model curricula and evaluation of geriatric education programs, WRGEC consortium members provide a statewide link to specialized programs in geriatrics geared to the unique urban, rural and Appalachian communities they serve. In addition to the overall goal of improving the quality of geriatric care, the WRGEC's goals for the 2007-2010 grant cycle include advancing geriatric competencies in three major areas: 1) Geriatric Palliative and End-of-Life Care; 2) Wellness in Geriatric Care; and 3) Integrative Therapies in Geriatric Care.
Increasing the number of faculty in geriatrics and gerontology by giving special emphasis to the training of existing and new faculty members.
Enhancing the knowledge and skills of professionals in primary, long-term, and community-based care of older adults.
Offering expert consultation and technical assistance in the development of geriatric training materials and programs.
Acting as a source for curricular materials, educational technology, and learning resources in geriatrics and gerontology.
